Preparing for Your Advising Session
Scheduled Appointments
- Appointments are scheduled by logging into the Student Advising Appointment System. To determine if you need to make an appointment, please go to https://chassstudentaffairs.ucr.edu/advising
- Be on time for scheduled appointments. If you are more than 5 minutes late, you will need to reschedule.
- If you are unable to attend an appointment, please call to cancel or reschedule the appointment. Please do not "no show" for your appointment.
Walk-in Advising
- Walk-in advising is available on a daily basis and lasts up to 6 minutes. To determine whether your question can be answered during a walk-in session, please go to https://chassstudentaffairs.ucr.edu/advising
The Advising Session
- Come prepared. Bring a list of questions or concerns.
- Check the General Catalog, Schedule of Classes and other websites to research your concerns. Complete a degree check on R'Web prior to your appointment.
- Don't be afraid to ask questions.
- Be honest and realistic as you discuss your concerns and questions.
- Share your goals and educational priorities.
- Convey your limitations and pressures.
- Follow up on previous recommendations.
- Be open-minded. Consider the possible alternatives offered to you by your advisor.
- Helpful suggestions from friends do not replace qualified assistance from an advisor.
It is inappropriate to use your cell phone in the office.
